The latter mansion, at 340 5th Avenue, belonged to William Backhouse Astor, Jr., whose wife was the lady who came to be known as Mrs. Their neighboring houses, or rather mansions, were located next to each other on 5th Ave, one on the northwest corner of 33rd Street and the other on the southwest corner 34th Street.
